Kristin established All Things New Counseling Services, LLC in Nixa, Missouri in 2009.
About Kristin McIntyre, MS, LPC, NCC EMDR Certified
Kristin is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Missouri since 2002, which means that Kristin has met rigorous standards for education, examination and practice as set by the state of Missouri. Additionally, to remain licensed, Kristin must meet ongoing educational and practice requirements every two years.
Kristin is also a Nationally Certified Counselor since 2004, which is a voluntary national board certification that requires Kristin to meet additional levels of education and practice accountability as set by the counseling profession represented by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). To remain nationally certified, Kristin must meet ongoing education and practice requirements for renewal every five years.
Additionally, Kristin is a certified PREPARE-ENRICH facilitator since 2008, which is the #1 pre-marital and marriage assessment for over 40 years, and is an extremely useful tool for identifying the underlying issues in couple relationships more quickly.
Kristin is also fully certified through an EMDRIA approved program in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). To be fully “EMDR Certified” requires significantly more education, training, and supervised practice than what is required to be “EMDR Trained.” EMDR Certification requires additional education and practice requirements as part of the renewal process every two years. Kristin also maintains membership with the EMDR International Association.
Please continue reading below about EMDR qualifications to learn more about the qualitative and experiential difference between an “EMDR Certified” clinician and an “EMDR Trained” clinician.
About EMDR Qualifications
Choosing a therapist certified by an EMDRIA (EMDR International Association) approved program is an excellent way to ensure that they meet the standard and quality of the EMDR therapy you are seeking. EMDRIA “promotes, fosters, and preserves the highest standard of excellence and integrity in EMDR.” (EMDRIA.org)
The terms “EMDR trained” and “EMDR certified” can also be an important consideration regarding the level of training an EMDR therapist has. A clinician who has completed basic training can call themselves an “EMDR trained” therapist and can ethically practice EMDR under their clinical license. A “certified EMDR” clinician has gone beyond basic level training and “has opted to meet standards of excellence in EMDR therapy, measured by consultation, clinical practice, and continuing education.” (EMDRIA.org) An EMDR certified therapist volunteers themselves to additional training and ongoing accountability that requires continuing education to stay current on the practice and application of EMDR in their therapy practice.
I opted to pursue the level of “certification” in EMDR because I did not feel the basic training adequately equipped me to apply EMDR treatment in a wide enough variety or complexity of circumstances for my clients.
Some other interesting things about me…
I have been married for 28 years to a computer geek and Oregon Ducks football fan. We have raised two children together, and they are both beautiful adult humans. I’m an introvert and a homebody, and I can entertain myself for hours and days (and probably weeks and months). My husband says I don’t know how to be bored (it’s true). I love to work in my woods, building trails, burning leaves, and hauling rocks uphill (nature’s CrossFit) while bingeing podcasts or audiobooks—usually stuff related to my counseling work or the reconstruction of my once deconstructed Christian faith.
I became a counselor by accident, which is a fun story especially because of how crazy passionate I am about my work as a counselor.
I love the mountains and winter and snow and I miss living in the Pacific Northwest- I’ve lived in the the rugged, wild mountains of the upper panhandle of Idaho (almost to Canada!) and I’ve lived near the Oregon coast. When I travel, I always go west and north. I just hate driving through Kansas to get to there.
About Dewey, Certified Therapy Dog
Dewey is a 22 pound Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He has earned his AKC recognized Canine Good Citizen certificate and Therapy Dog Certificate awarded by the Springfield Alliance of Therapy Pets.
Dewey takes his job very seriously! He loves to greet our guests in the lobby and has a way of helping people relax with his affable personality and his silly antics. He also has a deeply compassionate side. If you are open to his affection, he will sometimes instinctively climb up in your lap and place his paws around your neck and and give you a "hug."
If you have allergies or any other aversions to dogs, please be sure to discuss this with me prior to scheduling any in-person appointments so that accommodations (or referrals to another provider, if necessary) can be made. I also offer telehealth sessions for an allergy-safe alternative.
My Style and Approach
A PERSONAL TOUCH
There is a lot of telehealth counseling available out there these days (and I offer that, too), but my All Things New Counseling trademark has specialized in the personal touch of the in-person approach since 2009. I also specialize in complex trauma work, and complex trauma work is all about healing relationship and attachment wounds. I have found in my own practice that repairing relationship and attachment trauma wounds can be highly effective with the kind of connection that can be best made in an in-person therapy setting.
With that in mind, I have built an entirely new therapeutic experience with All Things New Counseling from the ground up. This new “healing haven” has just been completed as of 11/3/2025, and was constructed with your safety, privacy, and comfort as a top priority.
I’m all about being comfortable and relaxed, and being able to achieve that vibe is a big part of trauma healing, so here’s what I’ve created to aid in your healing journey….
C’mon in!
All Things New is located conveniently right off Mt Vernon St (Hwy 14) in the heart of Nixa, but it is also wonderfully located in a quiet and private location behind AutoZone to the south and behind the Nixa Community Library to the west. And yes, for those locals who have enjoyed living in Nixa for many years, this IS where the wonderful Lola’s Pastry and Eatery used to be.
There is an accessible parking spot right at the front door for those who would benefit from this accommodation, and the rest of the parking is also on site and right near the front entrance.
If you’re early for your appointment, and you’d prefer to wait outdoors rather than waiting inside, have a seat on the porch rocker and let yourself decompress as you take in the birds singing and the breeze rustling in the trees.
SAFE, RELAXED, and COMFORTABLE
We are going to work on hard stuff, and in order to be able to do that, it’s important that you feel safe and comfortable!
As an established client, you will receive an access code to enter the building. We are located in a very safe setting already; we are just going for extra secure and private.
When you enter the building you will enjoy a peaceful, private and secured space with gentle music and pleasant smells. The windows may be open to let the outdoors in if the weather is agreeable. If there is a scent diffuser running and you don’t care for the scent, feel free to switch it off. We only use oils with high quality purity testing, and we try to choose gentle, calming scents, but sometimes people’s preferences can vary, and we don’t want you sitting in a space where you don’t appreciate the scent!
Comfort is important when you are doing the hard work of therapy. You are welcome to put your feet up in my space, curl up with a blanket, sip a hot (or cold) drink, love on my therapy dog, Dewey, and let me know if there are any adjustments I can make to the space to help you feel more comfortable. The work you may be ready to do in therapy could be hard, but the space and company you experience with with me won’t be -I’m all about making it easier in whatever ways we can!
Help yourself to a drink or a snack!
You can’t miss our courtesy bar when you walk in! You’ll find a variety of hot and cold drink options and snacks. Therapy is hard work—let’s do whatever we can to make it a little easier!
There is also an accessible restroom in the hallway to the left as you enter the building. We’ve made it extra easy for you to find and access it. I mean, who can engage in therapeutic work when their bladder is full?
If you don’t see me or Dewey yet, grab a seat and relax in the lobby or on the porch—We will greet you as soon as we are available!
If you scrolled too fast, you may have missed the section above about Dewey. Dewey is my 22 pound therapy dog. He LOVES to greet our guests in the lobby, and no one could possibly be greeted with more delight (you can tell he’s delighted by how much he wiggles). He has a wonderful way of bringing levity to the space and putting people at ease. He also thinks everyone has come just to see him—and some of you probably actually have!
In My Therapy Room…
See that fuzzy pillow in the middle of the couch and the matching throw on the corner? They are soooooooo soft and cuddly. Feel free to pull them into your lap or wrap the throw around your shoulders. Warmth and soft touch signal safety to the nervous system.
Patio Therapy!
You may notice the patio doors in my therapy space. If you’d like to engage in “patio therapy,” we’ll just take it outside! Our yard is fully fenced in for privacy to enjoy the green space. Right now we are still waiting for the grass to grow, but once it does you can enjoy putting your toes in it, picking a few strawberries to munch, planting or harvesting a vegetable, smelling the flowers—I have a giant lilac bush just waiting for you to smell (well, it’s small right now, but it’s going to be giant eventually!). You might also enjoy watching the birds munching at the bird feeder or splashing in the bird bath (one of my favorite vagal break techniques), or getting a little rambunctious and silly with Dewey….
The outdoors can be a wonderfully therapeutic space!
And heck, yeah- put your feet up!
We chose this ottoman-table for that exact purpose!
Feel free to enjoy a delightfully sour Jolly Rancher candy while you’re at it.
You’ll find my therapy space full of ways to ground your nervous system and engage the vagal brake.
Telehealth Services
Still desiring telehealth services? We can absolutely do that! For some people telehealth really IS the best way to go.
Maybe you desire my services, but you don’t live close by, or it is a hardship for you to get to a physical office. Maybe you just feel safer meeting from your own home or space, or you wold like the anonymity of meeting with someone from further away, or it’s just more convenient for you to meet via telehealth, or you simply just prefer that approach. That’s totally okay, too!
I can serve you via telehealth as long as you are physically located within the state of Missouri for your services with me. I also have clients who sometimes prefer the flexibility of switching back and forth from an in-person meeting when it works well for them, and telehealth when they cannot get away from work or make it to my office for a session. It can be a wonderful benefit to have the flexibility to do this vs the disruption of a missed session!
There are sometimes cases in which telehealth may not be an appropriate approach, but if someone is a good candidate for it, it can sometimes be the right or best choice for their circumstances. I’ve had a lot of success treating many people well via telehealth—even for trauma work and EMDR treatment.
Still want to know more about my style and approach?
EMPOWERING
We will talk a lot about “what is RIGHT with you!”
You’ve probably spent enough time asking yourself, “what is WRONG with me?” This can lead to discouragement, despair, and an inability to see a different way, or make a change. When we talk about what is RIGHT with you, you will become more aware of your positive qualities, assets, and resources, which will help you feel empowered to confront and resolve difficult circumstances and do the “work” where you need to do it.
HOLISTIC
The counseling methods I use inherently honor the mind-body-spirit connection.
“Holistic counseling” is a bit of a buzz phrase in our current culture that can mean different things to different providers. In my practice it means that my holistic view of the human condition considers the entire person- body, mind, and spirit –with the perspective that addressing these aspects together provides the most thorough and effective treatment approach.
Employing concepts from Interpersonal Neurobiology, Polyvagal Theory and EMDR in my therapy approach helps you experience healing via increased attunement to how your nervous system, mind, and body hold emotions and sensations like fear, powerlessness, and shame. As you grow in attunement to how your nervous system, mind, and body relate to and respond to other people’s nervous systems, minds, and bodies, the holistic connection between mind-body-spirit is integrated. You are able to move from an unsafe sense (with a closed and defensive posture towards self and others) to a safe sense (with an open posture towards self and others). My clients have described this healing process as helping them connect with self, others, nature, and God.
I am also respectful of a variety of additional kinds of healers and health-building approaches which my clients may be simultaneously pursuing or desiring to pursue, such as nutrition and digestive health, functional medicine, massage therapy, acupuncture, and hormone balancing. I can also offer referrals to providers of these types if desired.
HUMOR
Sure, we will be talking about serious stuff, but there may be moments where humor is helpful along the way!
Laughter increases the release of endorphins, eases pain, and induces a sense of relaxation while reducing feelings of stress, depression, and anxiety.
And also…laughing is just FUN!
