Kristin McIntyre All Things New Counseling Counselor Nixa Missouri

Kristin has been serving the Nixa, Missouri and surrounding communities through All Things New Counseling since 2009

About Kristin McIntyre, MS, LPC, NCC EMDRIA approved EMDR Certified

Kristin is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Missouri since 2002, which means that she has met rigorous standards for education, examination and practice as set by the state of Missouri. To remain licensed, Kristin must meet ongoing educational and practice requirements every two years.

Kristin is also a Nationally Certified Counselor since 2004, which is a voluntary national board certification that requires her to meet additional levels of education and practice accountability as set by the counseling profession represented by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). To remain nationally certified, Kristin must meet ongoing education and practice requirements for renewal every five years.

Additionally, Kristin is a certified PREPARE-ENRICH facilitator since 2008, which is the #1 pre-marital and marriage assessment for over 40 years. It is an effective tool for quickly identifying the underlying issues in couple relationships.

Kristin is also an EMDR practitioner fully certified through an EMDRIA approved program in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). To be “EMDRIA approved EMDR Certified” requires significantly more education, training, and supervised practice than what is required to be “EMDR Trained.” EMDRIA approved EMDR Certification also requires additional continuing education to stay current and accountable in the practice of EMDR as part of the certification renewal every two years.

Kristin also maintains voluntary membership with the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA).

Please continue reading below about EMDR qualifications to learn more about the standards set by EMDRIA and the qualitative and experiential difference in standards between an “EMDR Certified” clinician and an “EMDR Trained” clinician.

About EMDR Qualifications

EMDRIA

Choosing a therapist certified by an EMDRIA (EMDR International Association) approved program is an excellent way to ensure that they meet the standards and quality of the EMDR therapy you are seeking. EMDRIA “promotes, fosters, and preserves the highest standard of excellence and integrity in EMDR.” (EMDRIA.org) EMDRIA holds its certified providers to the highest standard of quality, and EMDRIA certification is recognized far above any alternative program by major healthcare networks in the VA and the mental / behavioral health community.

“Trained” vs “Certified”

The terms “EMDR trained” and “EMDR certified” can also be an important consideration regarding the level of training and experience an EMDR therapist has. A clinician who has completed basic training can call themselves “EMDR trained” and can ethically practice EMDR under their clinical license. However, a “certified EMDR” clinician has gone beyond basic level training and “has opted to meet standards of excellence in EMDR therapy, measured by consultation, clinical practice, and continuing education.” (EMDRIA.org)

The more I learn, the more I discover there is still to learn!

Kristin opted to pursue EMDR certification through an EMDRIA approved program because she wanted to submit herself to the highest standards and rigor of training and and accountability for her clients. Kristin did not feel that basic /level one training was adequate for the variety and complexity of circumstances that can present in therapy. Clients frequently enter therapy because they feel anxious or are having trouble coping or managing day to day life, but they don’t always recognize that their struggles may be rooted in a complex history of trauma. Complex trauma is very common in today’s world. Kristin found that Basic/level one training minimally prepared her to potentially be able to work well with clients who had a single incident trauma (an isolated event), but did not prepare her to work effectively with complex histories inclusive of attachment traumas. Because clients rarely enter counseling with awareness that complex trauma underlies their presenting issues, a clinician without further training may not be able to adequately assess or treat these clients or worse, may even be much more likely to cause them harm. With a passion to serve her clients well, Kristin is continually engaging deep-dive studies and continuing education studies into a variety of subtopics such as why and how EMDR works, the causes and effects of trauma, attachment wounds, interpersonal neurobiology, and the mind-body connection in the experience of trauma as well as healing.

Some other interesting things about me…

I am married for 29 years to a computer geek and Oregon Ducks football fan. We have raised two amazing children together. I’m an introvert and a homebody, and I can entertain myself for hours and days (and probably weeks and months). My husband says I don’t know how to be bored (it’s true). I love to work in my woods, building trails, burning leaves, and hauling rocks uphill (nature’s CrossFit) while bingeing podcasts or audio books—usually stuff related to my counseling work or the reconstruction of my once deconstructed Christian faith.

I became a counselor by accident, which is a fun story especially because of how crazy passionate I am about my counseling work.

I love the mountains and winter and snow, and I miss living in the Pacific Northwest- I’ve lived in the the rugged, wild mountains of the upper panhandle of Idaho (almost to Canada!) and I’ve lived near the Oregon coast. When I travel, I always go west and north. I just hate driving through Kansas to get to there.

A Personal Touch in a Peaceful Private Setting

There is a lot of telehealth counseling available out there these days (and I offer that, too), but my All Things New Counseling trademark has specialized in the personal touch of a comfortable, compassionate in-person approach since 2009.

I treat a lot of complex trauma, which is all about healing relationship and attachment wounds, and I have found that doing this work in person is especially effective. Doing this work in partnership with my certified therapy dog, Dewey, is even better!

At the end of 2025 I set out to create an immersive healing experience by designing and building a therapeutic healing haven from the ground up with every detail chosen intentionally to promote a sense of calm, safety and comfort for healing the nervous system.

Welcome!

All Things New is wonderfully and discreetly located in a quiet, private location just off the beaten path in the heart of Nixa, MO.

There is an accessible parking spot right at the front door for those who would benefit from this accommodation, and there is plenty of additional parking on site just steps from the front entrance.

As soon as you enter the driveway you will be greeted by different varieties of trees, shrubs and flowers.

Everything is intentionally chosen to contribute to a pleasant welcoming sensory experience of nature.

Gentle soothing music will greet you as you approach the front walkway.

You are welcome to enjoy the porch rocker outdoors while you wait for your appointment if you’d like.

Pause and notice the butterflies and bumblebees dancing around the flowers enjoying their delightful pollinating party.

All Things New Counseling lobby with tweed sofa, wooden coffee table, armchair with pillow, window with vertical blinds, wooden shelf with coffee supplies, and wall decorations including a clock and floral arrangement.

Clients regularly comment on how peaceful the lobby is with all of its natural light, the soothing music, and the pleasant scents.

As an established client, you will receive a security code to enter the building, and the door will auto-lock behind you.

You will enjoy a peaceful, private and secured lobby.

The windows may be open to let the outdoors in if the weather is agreeable.

If you don’t care for the scent from essential oil diffuser, feel free to switch it off. We use oils with high quality purity testing, and gentle, calming scents, but preferences can vary, and we don’t want you sitting in a space where you don’t appreciate the smell!

There is a beige area rug, a wooden side table with a lamp, and large windows with vertical blinds allowing sunlight to fill the room. Decor includes a wall-mounted wooden tree art, a small shelf with fall flowers, and cushions with decorative pillows.

Help yourself to a drink or a snack

You can’t miss our courtesy bar when you walk in! You’ll find a variety of hot and cold drink options and snacks. Therapy is hard work—let’s do whatever we can to make it a little easier!

There is also an accessible restroom in the hallway to the left as you enter the building—discreet, yet easy to find.

If you don’t see me or Dewey yet, grab a seat and relax in the lobby or on the porch—We will greet you as soon as we are available!

Dewey is my 22 pound Cavalier King Charles Spaniel therapy dog. He LOVES to greet our guests in the lobby, and no one could possibly be greeted better than with his delighted wiggles. Dewey has a wonderful way of bringing levity to the space and putting people at ease. He also thinks everyone has come just to see him—and some of you probably actually have!

My Therapy Room

Kristin McIntyre's therapy room with a beige couch, brown leather chair, area rug, and various wall decorations. There is a sliding glass door with vertical blinds and a ceiling fan.

Comfort is important when you are doing the hard work of therapy. You are welcome to put your feet up, curl up with a blanket, sip a hot (or cold) drink, or love on Dewey, and let me know if there are any adjustments I can make to the space to help you feel more comfortable.

Kristin McIntyre's therapy room with beige walls, a tweed couch with soft fur and patterned pillows, a round chair, a brown leather ottoman with toys, a bookcase, a fireplace, and wall art. There is a door with frosted glass and window blinds.

Notice the fuzzy throw on the corner of the couch. It is soooooooo soft and cuddly. Feel free to pull it into your lap or wrap it around your shoulders.

Warmth and softness signal safety to the nervous system.

The work you have come to do in therapy may be hard, but the space and company you experience with me won’t be!

Feet up on a brown leather ottoman with legs crossed, wearing jeans and white sneakers, in a living room with a patterned rug, small wooden tray, TV on a rustic table, brown armchair, and wall decorations.

Heck, yeah- put your feet up!

I chose this ottoman-table for that very purpose!

Feel free to enjoy a sour candy. Intensely sour tastes are grounding and interrupt anxiety.

You’ll find my therapy space full of ways to practice regulating your nervous system!

Patio Therapy!

Yes- that’s a thing at my office! If you’d like to engage in “patio therapy,” we’ll just take it outside! The yard is fully fenced for privacy.

Nature is a wonderful resource for grounding the nervous system.

Watch the squirrels outsmart the bird feeder (every single time!).

Watch Dewey chase the squirrels as they run along the top of the fence, his floppy ears flying behind him as he tries with all his might.

(Don’t worry- there’s not a chance that he will ever catch them!)

My patio is also a wonderful space to practice calming breathwork by blowing bubbles.

And it’s hard not to feel a little lift in your spirit when you are surrounded by bubbles!

Telehealth Services

Ok, so all this in-person stuff is a great vibe, but if you are still desiring telehealth services, we can absolutely do that! For some people telehealth really IS the best approach.

Maybe you desire my services, but you don’t live close by, or it is a hardship for you to travel to the physical office. Maybe you just feel safer meeting from your own home, or you would like the anonymity of working with a counselor who is further away from where you live, or you just like the telehealth option.

I can serve you via telehealth as long as you are physically located within the state of Missouri at the time of your services with me. I also have clients who sometimes prefer the flexibility of switching back and forth from an in-person meeting when it works well for them and telehealth when they cannot get away from work or make it to my office for a session. It can be a wonderful benefit to have this flexibility rather than having to miss a session!

There are sometimes cases in which telehealth may not be an appropriate approach, but if someone is a good candidate for it, telehealth can be the right choice for their circumstances.

EMPOWERING

A woman with curly dark hair and hoop earrings smiling with arms crossed, wearing a patterned red and white dress, outdoors during the daytime.

We will talk a lot about “what is RIGHT with you!”

You’ve probably spent enough time asking yourself, “what is WRONG with me?” This can lead to discouragement, despair, and an inability to see a path forward. When we talk about what is RIGHT with you, you will become more aware of your positive qualities, assets and resources, which will help you feel empowered to confront and resolve difficult circumstances.

HOLISTIC

My holistic view of the human condition considers the entire person- body, mind, and spirit –with the perspective that addressing these aspects together provides the most thorough and effective treatment approach.

The counseling methods I use inherently honor the mind-body-spirit connection

Employing concepts from Interpersonal Neurobiology, Polyvagal Theory, Somatic Psychology, Internal Family Systems/Ego State work, and EMDR in my therapy approach helps you experience healing via increased attunement to how your nervous system, mind, and body hold emotions and sensations and how your system relates to and responds to your own and other people’s systems. Through this process, the holistic connection between mind-body-spirit is integrated. You are able to move from a closed, defensive stance towards self and others (when it is safe to do so) to a more open stance towards self and others (when it is safe to do so). My clients have described this healing process as helping them connect with self, others, nature, and God.

I am also respectful of a variety of additional kinds of healers and health-building approaches which my clients may be simultaneously desiring to pursue, such as nutrition and gut/digestive health, functional medicine, massage therapy, acupuncture, energy work, or hormone balancing. I offer referrals to providers of these types if desired.

HUMOR

A bald man with a beard laughing, wearing a dark suit and white shirt, against a plain white background.

Sure, we will be talking about serious stuff, but there may be moments where humor is helpful along the way!

Laughter increases the release of endorphins, eases pain, and induces a sense of relaxation while reducing feelings of stress, depression, and anxiety.

And also…laughing is just FUN!
